In the wake of the recent anti-Semitic shooting in Jersey City, N.J. and the machete attack at the home of a rabbi in Monsey, N.Y., news of anti-Semitism in the tri-state area has begun to pierce the mainstream-media bubble. But tensions have existed for decades in the Jewish enclaves that surround New York City.

THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE..

  • RRebellionRebellion3 days ago“Many in the community look at the Hasidim as locusts, who go from community to community . . . just stripping all the resources out of it,” said a Jewish, but not ultra-Orthodox, resident of upstate New York. The resident, who vociferously objects to ultra-Orthodox development and asked not to be named for fear of retribution by the ultra-Orthodox community, added that “nobody here doesn’t like them because they’re Jews. People don’t like them because of what they do. Rural, hardworking people also want to live our lives too.”

Nailed it on the head. It seriously cannot be put into better words ..
  • wwarrenwarren3 days agoIt is not anti semitism, it is opposition to the way of life of the Hassidim and their lack of contribution to the community and absence of interaction with those not part of their community.
  • SSteven TreSteven Tre3 days agoObviously these attacks are anti-Semitism. But the larger problem in these ares are not about hate or tolerance or acceptance. This is about abuse of the law, and through block voting electing officials who will enable that abuse and change existing zoning in areas where the existing residents have made huge investments to live there. This is about Jews being declared anti-Semites because they oppose the actions of other Jews. There is not an attitude of peaceful coexistence with neighbors. There is an attitude of “we can do whatever we want because we are in control of the decision makers and there’s nothing you can do to stop us”. It is not hate of people for their identity. It is resentment of selfish actions being taken.
  • yyodayoda2 days agoIt looks like the problem is the ultra orthodox sect characterized by strict religious observance, rejection of modern culture and modern education. They want to control all aspects of their members lives. The resulting poverty causes reliance on government programs for virtually all aspects of life.
  • DDAVIDDAVID2 days agoThere is a very small town in upper NY state. The Hasidic community came rolling in. Every other house was “a place of worship” .. i.e.– so they didn’t have to pay taxes…. With in 10 years the town was turned into a 3rd world country. Dilapidated homes, business & residence went to other towns.
I got tso bad -little property taxes- to keep services going. the Hasidic community had to go out a purchase their own ambulance service…..
While 3 towns nearby are thriving and doing very well…and look very beautiful.
